There are many podcasts options, but few are intended for children. This list of podcasts is designed especially for children. You can listen to them as a family or use them in the classroom if you’re a teacher. Children will enjoy the various podcast episodes. Podcasts can be great for a road trip, for example. All the ones on this list are free to listen, but some of them have activities and other material that you can purchase if you wish. Science/Tech Podcasts
Brains on! is a science podcast from the American Public Media. The hosts take you on a journey to explore this science behind everyday things. Each week is co-hosted by a different kid.
Wow in the World is a podcast from NPR “for curious kids and their grown-ups”. In every episode, the hosts share a story of a cool and interesting technological or scientific event from the world.
Tumble Science Podcast for Kids is designed especially for children. Although it’s geared towards children from eight years of age, you don’t have to worry about inappropriate content with younger listeners either. According to the producers, “We hope to prepare kids to be smart participants in society, who understand that science is one of the most powerful tools we have to shape our future”.
Stories Podcasts
The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian releases 15-20 minute episodes that tell a science fiction story of Finn Caspian, an 8-year old boy. Because this show is serialised, you have to start from episode 1.
Circle Round is a podcast from NPR for children from 3 to 10 years old. You and your children can listen to folktales from around the world in 10 to 20 minutes time slots. Listen as a family to explore the themes that come up in the episodes with your child(ren).
Peace Out is another story podcast but with a special twist. It incorporates visualization and breathing techniques to relax children and help them become more mindful.
Stories Podcast shares stories to entertain kids and capture their imagination.
Story Time is a podcast for children from 2 years old. Get a new story every two weeks. Stories are of various lengths.
Storynory has been around since 2005. It’s the children’s podcast with the longest history in this list. Listen to stories from around the world and original content read by professional actors.
Music Podcast
OWTK Kid’s Music Monthly Podcast shares 10 kid-friendly songs in each of their monthly episodes.
General Podcasts
Dream Big is hosted by 7-year old Ava and her mom Olga. The interview successful people about their dreams. The podcast episodes are between 20 and 30 minutes long.
Eleanor Amplified is safe for the whole family but recommended for kids 8 to 12 years old. The goal of this project is to develop an appreciation for journalism and media literacy. The show currently has two seasons and looking at the previous history, the third season is likely to start next summer.
Short & Curly is brought to you by ABC, out of Australia. It’s an ethics podcast for kids and families. Listen and explore questions about many topics including technology, friendship, animals etc. Individual episodes are less than 30 minutes long.
